Todos os sítios: braga centro
André Castanho
"All the sites" is a series of photographs taken in the city of Braga between 2018 and 2020, with the objective of raising reflection on the conditions of the contemporary landscape in its relationship with the photographic representation. It rehearses the construction of an allegorical and cognitive map of the city and landscape assuming a critical and dialectical posture, which is understood as part of the cultural process of landscape construction. In All the sites, the idea of Landscape is developed through visual fragments, where physical proximity and material fairness aim to fight misconceptions and prejudices that tend to attach it to a supposed transcendental value of Nature and territory. The term site brings the intention of deconstructing these misconceptions. Site is distinguished, in particular, from place, not only because it manifests a darker side of the act of besiege, showing a landscape composed of places, spaces and representations, neglected by many people, but also because of its precise meaning of 'position' (from Latin situs). Photographs have the dual ability to be both documents and artistic representations, serving the purpose of being developed from within the matters of the Landscape, allowing contact between aspects of the real world and the fictional world, in its different dimensions: physical, mental and social.
