ROMA (LA CASA GRANDE)
Bernardita Morello
ROMA is love, read from behind. For is love the protagonist, in its different forms, of the new project by Bernardita Morello (Argentina, 1984). This exhibition focuses on maternal-filial relationships, following the visits to the maternal house, in the remote city of Esquel, in Argentine Patagonia. In the first trips, she does it like daughter; in the last years also as a mother of herself. Esquel-where is located La Casa Grande that gives the name to this part of the series-is in Morello’s words “an arid, dry and precarious place, where the mountains that surround it protect and oppress likewise”. In this wasteland, in the bosom of a family made up only by women, it is where she grew up until she came to Europe. There she returns each year, to continue this personal homage to her mother, in an exploration that never ends.
