The award Emergentes 2023 – International Award Encontros da Imagem, aims to award the Best Portfólio in Contemporary Photography in the current year.
One of the festival's missions is to promote the work of emerging national and international photographers, helping to launch their careers. Throughout the years, the festival has played a key role in this regard, managing to do so through various exhibitions of new photographers but mainly through this prize. The winner, in addition to receiving significant monetary support and a photography exhibition at the next edition of the festival, also benefits from strong international visibility.
The prize is awarded through Portfolios Readings that takes place this year in one of the most emblematic spaces in the city of Braga, in the Salão Nobre of Theatro Circo on the 14th and 15th of August.
This activity, which involves around 75 people over two days, is a unique opportunity for emerging photographers to present their photographic projects to international specialists in the field — commissioners, gallerists, editors and directors of museums and festivals from around the world. This year the festival received 296 applications for the award.
